sometimes we just focus on the wrong pain to obtain the wrong gain

2010 – Well, Il start off with Terminator / Arnold Schwarzenegger favourite Quote “I’m Back!” in Miri, Sarawak. A small town “Ahem” City now since it’s city status in the Island of Borneo where more widely known as “The Land of the Head Hunters” or famous with it’s Tourism Posters all over the world with pictures of “Orang Utan” and “Rafflesia”

Well, 1st thing I did knowing that I made a choice to relocate back was dropped all my stuff home and kiss my mom before took the car out and hunt for food and gym. Depressing is all I can say as stocks and supplies are scarce if not expensive because it’s overrated and treated as a luxury rather than a necessity. I guess for certain benefits too that had caused a country to not promote healthy lifestyle. Worst they stripped subsidy on certain produce claiming its not healthy but never though of shifting that subsidy to healthy selections. So where did all the money go? Anyways….

So after an agonizing search for food and supplies I checked out all the gym’s in Miri. From the alley gym, house gym, shoplot gyms, hotel gyms, club gyms and gym equipment shops and realized it’s not a very well supplied city. So I took note on the strength and weakness of each gym. Which got me to pump different muscles in different gyms. Then the constant shifting not knowing if il be in Miri or Brunei kinda discouraged me to sign up for a gym and a local member. True enough I got a job down in Brunei as a Personal Trainer at Fitness Zone which was own by the all Famous Taiwan Idol, Wu Chun. Then I came back Miri to work as Videographer. Then shifted to a Club to work as a Gym warden before going back to brunei to work as a Personal Trainer in a newly opened gym. Finally shifted back to Miri to work in a Design House. Lots of moving around. I guess who would want to hire an actor / model / Lifestyle Coach?

So before I found a job in Fitness Zone Brunei I was bumming around looking for work. and at the same time found some friends of fitness who owns a gym and was kind enough to let me use the gym. Edison of X-Gym Permyjaya trains with me and we share knowledge on Bodybuilding. I was training there for many months and everyday. Some days when I want to train legs or specific muscle groups I will visit those gyms with the necessary equipments. For instant, Gym Rakyat Miri for legs, Eastwood Gym for chest, Cybergym for cablecross machine…etc.

Then I got the job so I moved down to bandar. Practically living, Training, Eating and Sleeping in the Gym as hostel was provided. So I trained myself as well as trained others. It was easy to maintain. There are bakeries at walks reach which offers nice range of healthier sugarless bread. I even managed to obtain 10packs due to a clean diet. I was shredded then. But I guess iv to move on…

Got a job back to what I’ve always wanted to do. Learn more about camera work, Videography and filming. But it was not as I’ve expected. The job took its tool. Occupying my time most of it. There was once a job which I’ve to work almost 20 hours a day for a good few week straight. That was the time I learn to make full use of it to maintain and I did great. Sacrificing sleep and rest just to make up. Of course, the body could not have handled this environment well for a long period of time. How I would beat it was waking up 1 hour earlier and sleeping 1 hour later each day to have a home workout. Taking 1 – 2 hours in between dinner and shoots to gym. I got even ripper and more shredded then due to the high intensity weight training. I’m still moving from gym to gym for different muscle groups. So it was not working out.

I got a job in the Fitness Industry again. This time it’s a club house with a fairly maintained and equipped gym.  There were a lot of equipments but still incomplete so on some days I’ll be training my legs and deltoids in other gyms. During that period the local bodybuilder friends approached me and asked me to consider competing next year. It was towards end of 2010 and I promised I’ll join. So in order to get into condition I’ve to find a good gym. Just then I’ve heard rumors that there is a new gym opening in Brunei and so I went for the interview and got the job. I shifted down to Brunei yet again…

Posing forearm is very rare cause I rarely train forearm other than reverse biceps curl cause i’ve always been strong with them from a young age. But I make sure I grip at every single opportunity

Its the legendary argument among those who lift weights : move weights and had played weights. Everyone have their own believe and well, all I can say is no one is every wrong as it’s an open discussion topic. So here’s my view on this topic.

STRAPS

Very popular among heavy lifters usually but now it seems like the wild bush fires. A lot of newbies dropped gloves over straps because they think it’s manlier to not use gloves but didn’t want to risk the injury of not protecting their wrist enough. But what this strap does is not too much on protecting the wrist if not placing more pressure on them due to the placement of the loop but to enforce the grip strength. One setback to this is that for some, they tend to loosen the strength on the natural grip hence stripping them off the benefits of a good traditional grip which strengthen their forearm to create better definitions plus improve their grips on the bigger muscle group compound exercise which requires better grip.

On the other hand, by using the straps you get to add more weights to your workout. Lifting heavier that your grip can handle and not the targeted bigger muscles. Just make sure you don’t cheat on too many reps or worst sets because when the big muscles fail and yet you can still lift because of the straps you will be swinging and swaying the weights and not actually working it.

GLOVES

Popularity getting lesser these days but you will see some of the loyal fans still sliding in to these before stepping onto the machine. But these gloves does it’s job well in providing a non-slip grip, protection against rust splinter and of course rough palm due to traction. There are 2 types of gloves. The wrist-wrap and well, non-wrist wrap. The wrist wraps provide better support and aid to the delicate wrist hence preventing it from over stretched issues due to heavy lifting but due to the support provided you will be relying less on the wrist and preventing yourself from building a stronger wrist for future lifts.

setback to gloves are that if you have not build a solid base or conduct strength training and move on straight to bodybuilding you won’t be lifting heavy for a long time. But look at it this way, BODYBUILDING IS A LIFESTYLE that means you would want to do it for a long period of time and slowly building it up with dedication throughout your lifetime. It would be awesome when you are lifting weights and maintaining a GREEK GOD PHYSIQUE at the age of 80 right? So why rush? Take your time and build up the smaller muscle groups to strengthen the bigger ones.

BARE HANDS

Now this is old school. And definitely the best way to lift weights. If you don’t mind the rough palms 1st of all. And risk of injuries to your wrist if you are a newbie. For those who start off with a good solid foundations, this is of no issue as they have already build up a strong wrist joints. The legends build their Godly Physique with just bare hands and some even bare foot. But it has not been too kind these days. With unethical builders flooding the gym throwing the weights around and not handling the equipments with care makes it dangerous due to wear and tear. Cuts are a common issue due to this. Then there are those who leave the weights all over after they are done. I’ve seen someone broke their toenails even with sandals on or worst trip over and ram their head into something. How is it safe these days with these clowns running around doing their monkey business in the gym?

It’s definitely manlier to go bare hands but make sure you are in a safe environment and have already build a solid base.

Like said. There is no right or wrong just a selective choice of preferences. Choose well.
